China a Production Possibility for Dunlop Aircraft Tyres
Reports from the Farnborough International Airshow indicate Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has an eye on setting up overseas manufacturing operations. Speaking at the show, company chairman Ian Edmondson said that Dunlop Aircraft Tyres may establish a factory in China in five years time, when the tyre maker has “no room to expand in our existing location.
“Then we will need another factory for new tyres,” he stated. “Of course it could be in China.” Last November the company established Dunlop Taikoo (Jinjiang) Aircraft Tyre Company Limited, a Fujian Province based retread and distribution centre. This Chinese location currently supports customers in Asia Pacific by distributing new tyres that have been made at Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ manufacturing site in Birmingham. Edmondson said that “if we are successful with this Chinese investment, then we will look favourably at China.”
Asia’s aviation industry is growing and Dunlop Aircraft Tyres is said to be aiming for a tenfold expansion of its regional market share within a space of five years, up to ten per cent.
