Cefni Tyres Win Grouptyre, Continental World Cup Promotion

Cefni Tyres of Llangefni, Gwynedd was named the winner of the first prize in the football themed national promotion organised by Grouptyre and Continental during the early stages of the World Cup last month. The retailer received a Sony 46” full HD LCD TV and home cinema system in the promotion, which ran throughout May, and was presented with the prize by its local Grouptyre member Oak Tyres.

“This is a complete surprise because I never win anything, but I’m absolutely delighted!” said Medwyn Evans, the owner of Cefni Tyres. “We’re a football family through and through and will be spending a good deal of our time tuning in to the World Cup matches, so this superb TV/Home Cinema package couldn’t be a more appropriate prize.” 

After leaving school Cefni Tyres owner Medwyn Evans spent three years as an apprentice with Wrexham AFC and was offered a professional contract. Sadly, his sporting career was cut short by injury after just one season. Now his two sons are involved in the beautiful game – one plays for Wrexham while the other is at Tranmere Rovers FC.

Every Continental car and 4×4 tyre that registered retailers bought from Grouptyre in May guaranteed them an entry in the grand prize draw which took place at the beginning of June. “Our aim was to promote the Continental range and acknowledge retailers’ loyalty to the brand whilst maximising interest in Continental’s role as an Official Sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.  We are delighted with the response to our first national incentive in conjunction with Continental which has gone down an absolute storm,” says Grouptyre marketing manager Lucie Dalton.

Derek Campbell Tyres & Exhaust Centre in Stockton-on-Tees and Wideopen Tyres & Exhausts Ltd in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, both of which purchase their Continental stock from NE Wholesale, and Banchory Service Station in Banchory, Kincardineshire, which is supplied by Grouptyre member Kenway Tyres, were runners up in the promotion and win Sony’s latest 19” HD ready LCD TV.  A further 10 lucky winners will take delivery of a Continental World Cup Goodie Bag comprising an Official World Cup replica match ball, a FIFA World Cup branded polo shirt and a rucksack.
