British Drift Championship Visits Donington
The Maxxis British Drift Championship travels to Donington Park this coming Saturday (10 July) for round four of the series. Tyre manufacturer Maxxis will be there to see the top drivers reassert themselves after weather and car troubles made life difficult for many competitors during the previous round at Lydden Hill.
Torrential showers followed by bright sunshine had a major impact on the levels of grip available at the Kent circuit and the 2010 championship is wide open after Team Japspeed’s Shane Lynch stormed to the top of the professional class.
Lynch’s Team Japspeed teammate Danny Eyles (blown turbo) and Phil Morrison (leaking crank seal) both went out of round three with car problems, while a sheared bolt on Mark Luney’s car saw him timed out in the final. This handed victory by default to Lynch, who currently holds a five point lead over Morrison with Simon Perry in third on 52 points and Luney, Eyles and Declan Munnelly all tied for fourth on 50 points.
In the semi-pro standings Ian Phillips tops the table with 74 points, stretching his lead over Martin Griffiths to 24 points, while Jordon Patten and Phil Maclachlan are in third and fourth on 49 and 48 points respectively.
Round four at Donington Park is open to the public from 10.00am and tickets can be purchased at the gate.
