Alcoa Celebrates 5 millionth Wheel in Europe
Alcoa Wheel Products Europe is having a double celebratio. Not only is 2010 the 30th anniversary of the company’s European activities, but July marks the delivery of the firm’s 5,000,000th wheel to an unnamed customer somewhere in Europe. That lucky customer has been rewarded for their fortuity with a free set of Alcoa Dura-Bright forged aluminium wheels for their truck or trailer.
Alcoa has been producing forged aluminium wheels for industrial vehicles since 1946 in the US. In 1981 the company started up a sales network in Europe. Sales figures for 1981 show that just 3500 wheels were sold. Sales gradually picked up, before taking off from 1997 on (the year in which Alcoa opened a wheel plant in Hungary), before peaking in 2007 and 2008. As you can imagine, the market dropped as a result of the recession in 2009, but is now said to be “showing a positive trend” again.
Looking ahead to the future, Alcoa reports that the company “keeps listening to their customers’ needs and continues to improve [its] forged aluminium wheel product range.” Several new developments are in the pipeline and will be introduced to the market in the coming months.
