Pirelli Tipped to Receive F1 Confirmation Today
The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council meeting in Geneva today could yield confirmation – finally – of Formula One’s reported deal with Pirelli to supply tyres to the series from next year. Motorsport website motorsport.com suggests that FOTA, the association for the sport’s teams, have signed a letter of intent and that contracts with Bernie Ecclestone are also in the bag.
Meanwhile reports from Italian source Autosprint have suggested the deal with the tyre-maker could be confirmed for the next three seasons. The Italian press has been quick to declare the deal done and dusted before – notably on 26 May, when reports suggested the deal had been confirmed. However, a meeting of the sport’s governing council would appear to be a likely time for the question to be answered definitively, especially considering the development cycle for teams’ 2011 cars, which should already have begun.
