England-German Rivalry Results in HiQ Breakfast Wager
For everyone in HiQ’s head office in Birmingham, the prospect of England beating Germany on Sunday afternoon is too mouth watering to contemplate. Almost everyone, that is. HiQ’s German retail director Juergen Titz is so confident that his countrymen will beat England on Sunday that he has promised to buy full English breakfasts for all of his employees if they lose. The 15 members of the HiQ team expected at the Goodyear Dunlop headquarters in Tyre Fort, Erdington are reportedly finalising their breakfast orders for Monday morning. One representative of the retail chain said the bet could hit Juergen just where it hurts most – his pocket.
Titz said: “When England came second in their group, I just knew we were destined for an England v Germany showdown. I’d like nothing more that to see Joachim Loew’s mighty men give England a sound beating. I am so confident that this will be the case that I have promised the HiQ team a full English breakfast each. When we come away with the victory, I am expecting a no-expense spared Continental breakfast on my desk first thing in the morning in return.”
HiQ’s marketing manager Geraldine McGovern said: “The office banter began as soon as the final whistle blew on England’s 1-0 win over Slovenia. We all had a feeling that the two nations would collide, and our tummies are already rumbling at the prospect of Sunday’s game!”
