Continental Equips World Cup Buses With its Tyres
As an official sponsor of the 2010 World Cup, Continental AG is not missing a trick when it comes to exposure. On 1 June, less than two weeks before the world’s highest profile footballing tournament kicks off, the automotive supplier has equipped all 32 team buses with its HSR 1 premium bus tyres.
According to the company, the HSR 1 was designed especially for use on motorways and regional transport – perfect for shuttling players from game to game, they say: “Continental is therefore making a major contribution to the safety of the world’s best footballers because the tyres are the only connection with the road and have a contact patch that is just the size of a postcard,” said spokesman Alexander Lührs.
As at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, all Continental transfer buses will be fitted with the tried and tested HSR 1 bus tyre: “We also want to use the 2010 FIFA World Cup to demonstrate the advantages of our tires to our guests on the road,” Commercial Vehicle Tires spokesman Udo Brandes added.
With a market share of over 20 per cent, the Continental claims market leadership in the South African car tyre replacement business. The company runs a plant for car and truck tires in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where a total of 1,600 employees produced around 2.4 million car tyres and 100,000 truck tyres in 2009.
