Michelin to Open First Retread Factory in Oman
Michelin is planning to open “the first retread factory of importance opened in the Arabian Gulf, outside of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” in Oman. The truck tyre retread plant is expect to produce over 10,000 retreads a year combining “Michelin know-how and competent expert hands.” According to AMEInfo, the project is being enacted in partnership with Moshin Haider Darwish, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman; Central Trading Company, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Central Motors and Equipment, Abu Dhabi and United Arab Emirates.
“Gulf Retread Solutions is a workshop fully dedicated to truck tyre retreading,” said Sylvain Coisnon, Michelin commercial director of the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen, adding: “The purpose of Michelin and its partners…is to propose transport solutions to the haulers of the Gulf, so to allow them to carry out about 80 per cent of the mileage of a Michelin new tyre for half of its price. So it has a direct impact on the decrease of the operating costs of the haulers.”
The plant is scheduled to be opened on 11 May 2010 by his Excellency Eng. Ahmed Hassan Al Dheeb, Undersecretary – Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Pierre Granzotto, director of marketing and sales of Michelin Africa, India, and Middle East; Mohsin Haider Darwish managing director of Mohsin Haider Darwish group of companies – Oman (Michelin distributor in Sultanate of Oman); Marwan Al Rostamani the chairman of Al Rostamani group of companies; Hassan Al Rostamani the vice-chairman-UAE (Central Trading Company – member of Al Rostamani group is the Michelin distributor in Dubai and N. Emirates); Saeed Al Fahim, the chairman of ‘Al Fahim group of companies’-UAE (Michelin distributor in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain) are all expected to be in attendance.
