Advan ZPS Provides Run-Flat Safety to Yokohama’s Flagship Range
Run-flat tyres have been added to the range of Yokohama tyres available in the UK following the arrival of the Advan Sport ZPS (Zero Pressure System). According to Yokohama HPT Ltd, the Japanese brand’s UK distributor, the newly arrived product is designed for fitment on vehicles such as the BMW 3, 5 and 7 series, Lexus GS and SC and the Mini Cooper, to provide drivers with Yokohama performance combined with run-flat capability. The tread pattern on the Advan Sport ZPS is the same as that of the original Advan Sport design, with four central grooves to displace water and the wide shoulder blocks intended to generate high levels of grip while cornering.
The existing Yokohama Advan Sport is Yokohama’s flagship tyre and is original equipment on vehicles produced by numerous manufacturers, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes Benz and Bentley. Now with the introduction of the Advan Sport ZPS, these vehicles can for the first time be supplied with Yokohama run-flats from the factory when desired.
The Advan Sport ZPS is designed to allow the car to continue driving for up to 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50mph following a complete loss of air pressure. The tyre, as expected, features a reinforced sidewall to support the vehicle’s weight without air. The specially-designed bead wire ensures that the tyre remains in contact with the wheel rim in use and the bead filler is said to keep the ride comfortable and rigid at all times. Yokohama adds that the company’s latest compound technology enables grip and safety to be maintained at all times, whether the tyre is at the optimum operating pressure or without air.
