Goodyear Introduces “RM” OTR Range, 63-Inch Sizes to Follow
In April, Goodyear is launching the first size in its new “RM” range of haulage tyres for off-the-road applications – a product line-up that will ultimately include two 63-inch fitments. The RM name stands for “rock mining”, and with this in mind an extra deep tread has been utilised in order to provide extend tread life in harsh operating conditions. Furthermore, says Goodyear, the presence of interlocking stability blading is intended to promote a solid footprint, and high angle grooves promote traction and cleaning.
Plans to begin production of 63-inch OTR tyres in the fourth quarter of 2010 were first announced in October 2009. John Cavanaugh, who at the time was vice president of Goodyear’s off-highway tire business, said the introduction of this tyre size “is part of a long-term strategic decision that reflects Goodyear’s commitment to deliver products for OTR customers’ changing demands.” Goodyear also noted that demand for quality 63-inch tyres, in spite of the economic slowdown, remains strong.
The RM design, developed from the company’s RL-4M+ tyre, is anticipated be produced in the following sizes:
