Barry Stocker Appointed Sales Director for Genan
Denmark-based Genan Business & Development A/S, which purports to be the world’s largest tyre recycling company, has appointed Barry Stocker as sales director for UK and Ireland. According to the company the appointment took effect on 1 February 2010. At the time Stocker was president of the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) and member of the UK Tyre Working Group, however Tyres & Accessories understands that the association has since appointed a new president and will shortly release a statement confirming this. Prior to joining Genan Stocker was commercial director for Murfitts Industries Ltd and spent most of his professional career within tyre recycling in the UK.
Genan specialises in large scale operations works with three tyre plants in Germany (two in operation and one under construction), which reportedly have the capacity to recycle 30 per cent of all German scrap tyres. The company’s one plant in Denmark processes 90 per cent of all Danish scrap tyres. All of their new plants are 65,000 tonnes/year or larger.
In addition, Genan has established itself in US (Genan Inc.) selling finished products for artificial turf and playgrounds, and with the aim to build four large recycling plants within a short period of time. To put this in perspective, the company’s Houston, Texas project has a capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year.
Genan’s processes old tyres into raw materials of “very high quality”. According to company literature, this means rubber powder and granulate of an “extremely uniform in size” which makes them suitable for “sophisticated and high-value applications like modification of bitumen and asphalt.”
