Avon Tyres backs Molyneux at the 2010 Isle of Man TT
Avon rubber is once again the tyre of choice for Isle of Man sidecar legend, Dave Molyneux. Last year, Molyneux took his victory tally on the Island to 14, thanks in part to the Avon Tyres on his outfit. This year, it is all changed as Molyneux has a new passenger – Patrick Farrance – and now has Kawasaki power for the coming road-race season.
The Manxman said, “After the result last year, I had to use Avons again! We’re both really excited about the up-coming season and the Isle of Man TT in particular. We took our Kawasaki-powered outfit out for the first shakedown test last week and, even with a standard motor, it’s feeling pretty good! With such a positive start, I’m really looking forward to the TT races, where I’m hoping to add wins 15 and 16 to my tally!”
The race win last year put Molyneux third on the all-time TT winners list, with the legendary racer Mike Hailwood. The Isle of Man TT races are a gruelling test of man and machine. Since 1907, the Island has played host to the annual event, which sees solo and sidecar classes tackle the notorious 37.73-mile circuit.
This year’s TT festival takes place between Saturday May 29 and Friday June 11. Traditionally the first week is for practice with the races taking place on June 5, 7, 9 and 11. Dave and Patrick will be out in Sidecar TT Race 1 on Saturday June 5 and Sidecar TT Race 2 on Wednesday June 9.
Avon Tyres has a long and distinguished history in motorcycle racing on two and three wheels. The Company manufactured its first motorcycle tyre in 1911 and, since then, champions such as Geoff Duke, John Surtees, Mike Hailwood and Barry Sheene have used and won on Avon. More recently, Avon riders have won 13 Supersport and four Production class championships, as well as Isle of Man TT victories on both three and two wheels.
