NHTSA Calls Public Meeting on US Tyre Labelling Rules
According to Tire Review, the NHTSA is apparently nowhere near ready to unveil the final regulations for its long-planned tyre testing and labelling programme. The US agency announced it will hold a public hearing on March 26 to further define the consumer education element of the congressionally mandated programme. In advance of the hearing, the agency is seeking written comments from interested parties.
The NHTSA said it wants to collect more information on how best to conduct consumer research on tyre fuel efficiency and the law’s consumer education requirements. The new tyre testing, labelling and education mandate was included in the Energy Bill of 2007, passed and signed in December 2007. The NHTSA issued preliminary regulations last year, and was expected to issue its final regulations by the end of 2009.
