Michelin Main Cities of Europe Guide on Sale Today
With a March 17 release date and £14.99 price tag (€22.90 in Ireland and on the Continent), Michelin’s Main Cities of Europe 2010 guide covers 44 cities across 20 European countries. This latest edition of the publication includes one newly-added city – Salzburg, Austria – and a total of 3,257 establishments, including 1,542 hotels and 1,715 restaurants. The UK is represented by coverage of London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with 357 restaurants in the four cities included.
The guide is only available in one European language, and thankfully for us that language is English. Michelin describes the Main Cities of Europe guide as being primarily intended for business travellers and tourists visiting leading European cities and wanting to be able to easily find, for example, a hotel that is near the convention centre or a restaurant where they can invite a customer to lunch after an appointment. Information contained within the guide includes city maps showing the location of hotels and restaurants, key words for defining each establishment’s style, practical information about each city (such as sites to visit, tips for getting around town) and tourist information.
In another new development, the Main Cities of Europe 2010 selection is now available on iPhone, as are all restaurants listed in any of the Michelin guides for Europe, thanks to an application developed by ViaMichelin. Michelin lists a price of €14.99 for the application and has not given a specific sterling price. Once downloaded, the information is stored directly on the phone and does not require an internet connection to use. Another new feature for 2010 enables users to conduct searches using the name of either the chef or the restaurant. This application will be available in mid-June.
