JK Tyre Hail VW Scirocco Cup Prodigy
You may not have heard of him before, but tyre maker JK Tyre is backing Aditya Patel as a driving “prodigy and India’s most promising driver.” JK Tyre’s comments come in advance of the forthcoming VW Scirocco Cup that starts in April 2010 in Germany. 21-year old Aditya will also be the first Indian to drive a Green Racing car as the Scirocco runs on ERD Bio gas, something which is said to be global first.
JK Tyre, which has been supporting Aditya in his professional training and participation in various national and International motorsport events, is also one of his lead sponsors in this endeavor. The Scirocco Cup will be held as the partner series of the hugely popular DTM in its 2010 debut season. Staged as the most eco-friendly one-make championship in the world, the sporting equipment: the racing version of the Scirocco is powered by an innovative biogas engine that achieves an 80-per cent reduction of CO2 emissions compared with conventional engines.
Congratulating Aditya on his participation in the Scirocco Cup, Sanjay Sharma, Head – Motorsport, JK Tyre and Industries said: “It’s heartening to see JK motorsport’s brightest stars rising in the international motorsport arena and creating a name for themselves and the country. We discovered Aditya’s passion for motorsport when he was 9 years old and won his first JK regional Karting Championship. Since then we have been actively supporting him in his endeavour to be a world class motorsport driver. We are really proud of him and wish him all the very best for this upcoming exciting adventure and may all his future efforts be equally successful and rewarding.”
Besides this JK Tyre is also gearing up for the upcoming VW Polo Cup. The company has entered into a long term strategic partnership with Volkswagen for the advancement of motorsport in the country by bringing in the Polo Cup which debuts in India this year from June 2010.
The Polo Cup racing championship will present itself with a record field of contenders. It will feature 20 teams between the age of 16-24, who will race in identical technology cars that are centrally tuned and maintained by Volkswagen India Factory. This is the first time that any race will be held in the country with diesel engines. With this move, drivers from India will start featuring in the international editions of the Polo Cup from next year.
