FuelMax Technology Awarded by Luxembourg Business Federation
Goodyear reports that its FuelMax Technology for truck tyres came out a winner at awards held by the Luxembourg Business Federation (FEDIL). The federation bestowed its 2009 Environmental Award upon Goodyear, recognising the environmental and cost related benefits FuelMax Technology delivers. According to Goodyear, the judging panel concluded that the development of products featuring new technology proves the importance of research efforts at Luxembourg based sites, such as Goodyear's Innovation Center.
Henk van Tuyl, Goodyear’s director of tyre technology for commercial tyres, EMEA, and Georges Feider, chief engineer and member of the FuelMax Technology development project, accepted the prize on behalf of the entire development team. It was presented by Claude Wiseler, Luxembourg’s minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructures. “It is a great honour for Goodyear to receive this award, as it highlights Goodyear’s long-term commitment to the protection of the environment, as well as its drive for new innovative ideas and products. It furthermore positions us with a comfortable advance in light of the upcoming EU regulations, which require tire labelling containing fuel efficiency, noise and wet performance information as of 2012,” said van Tuyl.
FuelMax Technology was specifically developed to achieve improved fuel efficiency, extended mileage and reduced braking distances. Goodyear’s new Marathon LHS II and LHD II truck tires are equipped with this technology, which contains a new high silica compound , a new tread pattern plus a new carcass structure. Based upon internal rolling-resistance tests of the new versus old generation tyre with a fixed fuel price and average consumption, Goodyear says a 40-tonne truck driving 150,000 kilometres per year can save up to 1,350 euros per year when equipped with the new tyres.
