Dunlop Gives SP QuattroMaxx SUV Tyre World Premiere at Geneva
Dunlop has announced that it will launch the SP Quattromaxx – an ultra high-performance summer tyre with a sleek sidewall design by Pininfarina – at the Geneva Motor Show. The new tyre will be on display at the Goodyear Dunlop stand – number 2057 in Hall 2 at the famous Swiss motoring event. The introduction of the new ultra high-performance SUV product comes backed with some impressive lap time results. Prior to its launch, the new tyre was put through its paces on the Nürburgring Nordschleife where it helped driver Patrick Simon and his 550 HP Porsche Cayenne Turbo achieve one of the fastest lap times ever set by an SUV: 8:33:99.
As an experienced vehicle tester with extensive knowledge of the demanding Nordschleife circuit, racing driver Partick Simon was thrilled at the opportunity to test the SP QuattroMaxx. “After 25 years in motor sport in which I have always driven cars to their limits, I am now faced with the opportunity to take a road registered SUV with street tyres to the limit. This way I can judge what’s good and what’s not so good a lot easier,” commented Patrick.
“An SUV is generally a massive, heavy vehicle. The SP QuattroMaxx, however, gives the SUV a sports car performance. I’m really impressed. Braking, corner entry and acceleration out of the corners – in all key performance parameters the tyre is extremely good,” said Simon. “In comparison with its competitors, the SP QuattroMaxx is very strong in the acceleration phase. The SP QuattroMaxx is super stable where competitors often fight against under-steering, and it delivers a very early acceleration out of the corners.”
With Simon’s words representing a glowing endorsement, Dunlop says that the tyre represents an answer to the question raised by the increased power in many of today’s SUV engines. The impressive power output combined with SUVs’ significantly higher centre of gravity creates a challenging set of performance requirements for a tyre. Dunlop identified the need to develop a SUV tyre not only capable of coping with, but also complimenting these special SUV driving characteristics to provide maximum driving pleasure. The new SP QuattroMaxx is Dunlop’s first tyre to answer this growing demand.
