KL51 On-Road is Recent Addition to Kumho 4×4 Range
The most recent addition to Kumho’s Road Venture APT KL51 is available in sizes up to 18 inches in diameter. According to company representatives, this street terrain tyre delivers “tremendous all-season traction, low noise and extended mileage performance.” In addition to the KL51, Kumho reports that it offers a comprehensive 4×4 tyre range that covers all popular SUVs such as the Mercedes ML, Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg and BMW X5, as well as the more serious off-road vehicles, and even specialist fitments of up to 32 inches in diameter not produced by other manufacturer.
The joint winner of the 2008 ‘ultimate tyre test’ organised by 4×4 Magazine and Land Rover World, Kumho’s Road Venture MT KL71 is designed for ultimate durability and off-road traction. According to Kumho, the tyre’s wider footprint has the advantage of better floatation on soft surfaces (such as sand and bog) and superior stability on-road. However, the tread said to be the tyre’s most innovative aspect.
On the road, the tread pitch sequence and centre elements have been designed to give a quieter ride than typical MT tyres; while the centre area of the tread is solid, which maximizes on-road stability and braking. The high void directional pattern is said to have excellent aquaplaning resistance and also sheds mud well. And the shoulder lugs are designed to provide off road traction on soft surfaces.
Other key tyres in the Kumho range include: the Road Venture AT KL78 and the huge 305/25R 32. However, the latter is just one, albeit conspicuous, part of Kumho’s latest ECSTA X3 KL17 line-up for top-of-the-range SUVs which includes most popular fitments; particularly in the 18 to 22-inch rim sizes. According to the company, the X3 has been developed to take leadership in the UHP market and spearheads a growing selection of top-class, technology-driven Kumho products for SUVs. Its key features include stability at high speed, excellent traction, durability and powerful braking performance.
