CV Radial Shortage Causing OEM Headaches in India
India’s Tata Motors reports its commercial vehicle production has been reduced by between five and ten per cent since January due to a shortage of radial tyres and other key components. This disclosure follows one from Ashok Leyland, who was forced to decrease production by 20 per cent for similar reasons.
“There is no one specific supplier that is leading to this shortfall,” Tata Motors president of Commercial Vehicles, Ravi Pisharody told the Hindu Business Line. “Most of the industry has been affected for the last one to two months with the shortage of tyres. We’ve had to scale down production by around five to ten per cent because of this.
“With February and March yet to come, we are working with our suppliers to make sure that the shortage problem is resolved soon,” Pisharody added. When asked if the anti-dumping duty on truck/bus radial tyre imports from China and Thailand will further widen the gulf between commercial vehicle radial supply and demand, Pisharody said that that the company prefers to ‘wait and see’ the effects of the duty.
