Bridgestone Reports 4×4 Run-Flat Popularity
Bridgestone’s 4×4 run-flat (RFT) tyre, the Dueler H/P Sport RFT, has proved a popular choice with 4×4 vehicle manufacturers and has a number original equipment fitments including recent fitments on the BMW X5M and X6M, according to the tyre manufacturer.
The Dueler H/P Sport RFT works by using pattern advantages of Formula One tyres to give motorists grip on both wet and dry road surfaces. The tread design also features an aggressive edge design in line with the rest of the Dueler range, with block stiffness increased on the outside shoulder and tie-bar centre ribs for enhanced handling and refinement.
Since its inception, the wider Dueler range, which caters for road drivers wanting performance rubber with limited off-road capabilities, through to serious 4×4 enthusiasts requiring traction, grip and durability in harsh conditions, has continued to impress the manufacturers of some of the UK’s top vehicles.
Company representative commented that run-flat tyres are a development in tyre technology that will further improve the safety of 4×4 driving: “They will also aid fuel efficiency because of the technology’s space and weight-saving capability created by the fact that no heavy and redundant spare tyre is required.”
“Our Dueler range has long been recognised for quality and consistency in the ever-evolving 4×4 market,” said Andy Dingley senior analyst for Bridgestone UK, adding: “…the run-flat tyre…has added a new dimension by giving drivers of luxury 4×4 vehicles a tyre that offers the same characteristics as the rubber on high-performance coupés and saloons, namely excellent all-weather handling, sharp steering precision and maximum refinement and comfort.”
