Total BMW Magazine Journalist Impressed by Maxxis MA-Z1
Maxxis and Grouptyre, its exclusive UK distributor, recently supplied MA-Z1 tyres for Total BMW Magazine’s long-term test of the German auto manufacturer’s BMW 318ti Compact. The magazine features regular updates on upgrades and improvements it has made to the car and has reported (in the Running Reports section of the December 2009 issue of Total BMW Magazine) taking the 318ti to the Croft Circuit for a BMW Car Club Track Day, where journalist Andrew Everett switched from Pirellis to the MA-Z1 high performance tyre in size 225/50×16. Maxxis received excellent feedback following the switch, reports UK MD Derek McMartin.
“Feedback is important to us and we were delighted to learn that Total BMW Magazine had such a positive experience with the MA-Z1, which is available in almost 50 sizes up to 285/30 ZR20 and has quickly established itself as one of our top-selling UHP products since its addition to the UK range in 2006,” said McMartin.
Everett was reportedly impressed with this “decent set of rubber”, discounting suggestions that Maxxis tyres can suffer from road noise: “I’ve not noticed a single decibel more than the previous 205’s. The car doesn’t feel squidgy in corners like it would on cheap tyres.”
When the BMW Car Club took a last minute decision to run an evening track event at Cadwell Park, Everett was quick to accept an invitation and notched up 118 miles in the space of one and a quarter hours. Again, he was impressed with the performance of the Maxxis MA-Z1s, writing: “Well, if you want tyres that work well on the road and really stack up on the track, you won’t be disappointed by these and I doubt the expensive brands would do much better. Even some big name (and big price) tyres will start to go off after 10 or 15 laps, but even after 27 laps the Maxxis tyres were doing fine.” He continues that he took great pleasure in carrying a speed of 90mph through Coppice without lifting which enabled him to catch up cars that had overtaken him on the long straight out of Barn Corner.
