ETRMA Publishes REACH Exposure Scenario Information
At the end of December, ETRMA published details of a set of exposure scenarios covering the use of chemicals in the rubber industry in order to support European rubber chemicals manufacturers and importers that operate within the framework REACH legislation. The latest REACH legislation took effect on 1 January 2010.
According to the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturer’s Association, the association has also published supporting documents that contain information promoting the use of alternative emission factors that “more accurately represent the exposure associated to chemicals used in the rubber industry.”
Lorenzo Zullo, chemicals and environment legislation and advocacy coordinator, noted that, proactive identification and addressing of the key expectations that REACH has created in terms of roles and responsibilities of downstream users has been the base for achieving an effective and fruitful supply chain communication, which will continue during the entire REACH registration process. This work, based on chemical categories, has improved the initial top down approach pursued by manufacturers and importers and it could be used as an example for other sectors still in the process of developing generic exposure scenarios.
