Dunlop Extends Australian Superbike Control Tyre Deal
Dunlop Tyres’ control tyre supply to the Australian Superbike Championship has been extended for a further three seasons. The tyre maker has already served in this capacity for the past two years. “We at Dunlop are excited with this announcement and are proud to be appointed this tender,” said Dunlop’s motorcycle and motorsports National Manager Ken Wieden. "This was an important contract for us and our distributors to win.
“Dunlop has always been seriously involved in racing and to be awarded this contract means we can continue our association with the nation’s premier championship series,” Wieden continued. “Racing means many things for us, from product development to promoting the brand image to sales. We believe in our product and all at Dunlop are avid motorcycle racing fans. We are proud to be associated with (championship organiser) IEG & the ASBK and look forward to an exciting championship series in 2010 and the years to follow”.
In addition to providing a tyre up to the job, during the tender process prospective tyre suppliers needed to demonstrate their willingness to support racers and the championship. “Dunlop’s proposal provided everything the championship required and their proven track record under pinned everything they put forward,” said International Entertainment Group director John Naggar. “This was something we needed to do, so we could ensure that we were providing what our participants where asking for.
“Along with performance, riders have been pushing us to look at cost reduction strategies,” Naggar added. “The tender Dunlop put forward displayed an equal concern for performance and costing. I can confidently say that riders will be happy with Dunlop’s contingency plan and pricing.”
