Michelin’s Agricultural Tyre Training Course Gets City & Guilds Approval

Michelin’s latest agricultural tyre training course, which is run at the Company’s Training Centre in Stoke-on-Trent, has gained City & Guilds approval. The Agricultural Tyre technical course is designed for tyre trade personnel and other people involved in the sales, maintenance and specification of agricultural tyres. It is offered to new recruits to the industry as well as giving experienced personnel the opportunity to receive formal training on a wide range of agricultural tyre-related topics.

Brityrex Countdown: Shandong Wanda Boto Tyre to Exhibit

One of the features of next October’s Brityrex Int’10 exhibition will be the presence of several Chinese tyre manufacturers and distributors. Many of these companies may be new to UK and European tyre buyers, but all will share the same objective of increasing their brand awareness and penetration of the British and European markets. Among the first time exhibitors at Brityrex Int’10 will be Shandong Wanda Boto Tyre, a leading manufacturer of radial truck, bus and OTR products with an annual production capacity exceeding 1.5 million truck and bus units and 30,000 radial OTR. The company employs more than 2,000 staff and has fixed assets exceeding US$300 million.

Marangoni Floats the Z-HYDRO

Following the success enjoyed by its previous Alfa MiTo M430 and the Fiat 5.0.0. project cars, Marangoni has developed the ‘Z-HYDRO’, a new tuned vehicle for 2010. As before, the project has been handled by Florence, Italy based tuner TRC Italia, and completed in what Marangoni describes as an “astonishingly short time”, considering the recent market launch of the Nissan 370Z R34, the vehicle the Z-HYDRO is based upon.

For what it believes is the first time in India, Siremull Hirachand's Tyrestore of Greams Road, Chennai has announced the introduction of Italian robotics within their tyre fitting equipment. The Fox Robofit, Tyrestore continues, is recommended by Michelin and Bridgestone worldwide for the fitment of the new generation Tubeless, Runflat, Low/Ultra Low Profile, Hi Performance tyres and is customised to Tyrestore’s requirements, designed to suit Indian operating conditions. The retailer believes that the equipment makes the company “future ready”, since it can be used to fit tyres measuring up to 26” wheels/tyres. Exemplifying the company’s readiness for the future, says Tyrestore, is the fact that the current standard fitment limit for most BMW cars in India is only 20”, while Rolls Royce is 21”.

BA Bush F1 Promotion Raises £700 for Parkinson’s Disease Society

Shoppers in Spalding helped raise almost £700 for the Parkinson’s Disease Society by paying to have their picture taken next to Bridgestone’s replica Ferrari F1 car at an event that marked the opening of BA Bush & Son’s latest tyre depot on Fulney Lane North. The money was raised at a F1 event at Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens, where local people were invited to have their picture taken alongside the car in exchange for a small donation to the charity.

National Partners Revive! To Offer SMART Repairs

Following pilot carried out at a small number of branches in conjunction with Revive!, National Tyres and Autocare has extended its offering customers a SMART repair trial to 35 more branches in the North West. Following the current trial, the companies plan to roll out the Revive! SMART repair service to the rest of National’s network during 2010.

“Revive! impressed us with their professional approach and their product offering compliments our core business,” said Mike Garwood, project manager of National Tyres and Autocare. “Their image is very professional, aligning well with our brand values, and their workmanship and commitment to customer service is outstanding.”

Lanxess Moving Butyl Rubber Global Headquarters to Singapore

Demand for butyl rubber is growing in the Asia-Pacific, and in order to better serve customers in this region, Lanxess AG intends to relocate its Butyl Rubber business unit headquarters there next year. The company made an announcement to this effect on November 9, and as of 2010 the headquarters will thus leave Fribourg in Switzerland and join the Singapore based Southeast Asian businesses of Lanxess’ 13 business units.

Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Tyres Selected for 2010 Toyota Prius

Goodyear has announced that the 2010 Toyota Prius will fit its Assurance Fuel Max tyres as standard in the US. According to the company, the fitment for the popular Prius will be Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tyres in size P195/65R15. The selection of the new Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max for the 2010 Toyota Prius follows earlier announcements that the tyre will be fitted on the 2010 Ford Fusion S and the exclusive fitment for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.

Translogik Buys Pneu-Logic IP and Trading Name

Translogik Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of RFID company Transense, has announced the purchase of intellectual property (IP) relating to Bluetooth enabled tyre inspection tools manufactured by Pneu-Logic and the trading name Pneu-Logic. Translogik paid an initial amount of £50,000 and additional payments will be made, subject to sales volumes, up to an undisclosed agreed maximum. This latest announcement follows the news (on 8 June 2009) that Translogik, Transense’s sales arm, was to distribute the Pneu-Logic made bluetooth tyre tools.

TyreSafe Achieves International Recognition with Road Safety Award

TyreSafe has been internationally recognised for its ongoing contribution to motoring security. Friday’s steering committee meeting was punctuated by the lunchtime presentation of the Prince Michael International Safety Award: Recognising achievement and innovations which will improve road safety. Vredestein managing director and chairman of TyreSafe, Stuart Jackson declared himself, on behalf of the whole organisation, “ecstatic about the award”, saying that it represents an “accreditation of what we believe in”, as an organisation that cuts across company divisions.

Cooper Angels Draw a Crowd at Reifen China

Cooper Tires & Rubber Co. showcased 33 products under four brands at the third Reifen China show (11 – 13 November). Cooper officially launched its Chengshan CSC-5 and Austone SP-7 products at the show. The two are said to fit “all kinds of mid- to high-end sedans and roadsters.” In addition to two product launches, Cooper Tires also showed its “green way” philosophy for saving. However, it was the Cooper Angels (figureheads of the company’s Far Eastern TV advertising campaign) and the troop of dancers literally bussed in for the event that drew in the crowds.

According Reifen China’s organising company, Cooper Tires’ stand was one of the largest exhibitors in terms of size at the show. The stand was structured into four function areas which showcase four product categories: the domestically-made Zeon series passenger car tyres, Starfire saloon treads, Chengshan and Austone-branded passenger car tyres as well as the Dean TBR tyres. All the treads on display are manufactured by Cooper Chengshan, which fully reflects the technology and production strengths of Cooper's joint venture in China.

Kumho OE for Mercedes Actros in Korea

Kumho Tire has given word of arrangements to supply truck tyres to Daimler AG in its home market. As of late November the Mercedes Benz Actros will be sold in South Korea with Kumho tyres as OE. Due to a confidentiality clause, however, the company has not revealed how many tyres will be delivered to Daimler as part of the arrangement.

Increase in Michelin Revenue for 2010 Unlikely – Rollier

Revenue at Michelin & Cie. is not expected to increase next year. Managing partner Michel Rollier has expressed his caution on growth prospects due to uncertainty about the automotive industry’s recovery and rising raw material costs.

Slowdown in UK Car Production Decline Seen in October

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders report a total of 114,335 new vehicles produced in the UK in October, a 10.1 per cent year-on-year decline. Of this total, 106,400 passenger cars were manufactured, 6.7 per cent less than a year ago, and 7,935 commercial vehicles, a 39.5 per cent decrease compared with October 2008. These figures represent a slowdown in the pace of car output decline, with the month’s shortfall the smallest this year. Commercial vehicle output, however, continues to decline sharply.

Nokian Studded Tyre Tops European Magazine Test

Nokian Tyres claims its Hakkapeliitta 7 studded winter tyre was successful in recent comparison tests conducted by European car magazines, reported Tire Review. The tyre achieved test victories in publications from Finland, Sweden and Russia, Nokian said.
