Rema Tip Top Puts Safety ‘at the Core’
For many years the health and safety implications of truck and bus tyre handling and inflation has been a significant topic of discussion in the tyre industry. Nearly half of all tyre-related incidents reported are the cause of manual handling injuries, with tool-related injuries making up to a quarter of incidents alone. Rema Tip Top are claiming to have made this practice a whole lot easier with a new inflation device designed for the safe installation and removal of valves cores during the inflation of truck and bus tyres.
According to the company, Rema Tip Top’s new CRT ‘Core Retracting Tool’ essentially solves the age-old problem of re-engaging the valve core into a truck or bus valve when the tyre has been inflated. This procedure is notoriously fraught with danger, as experienced tyre fitters run the gauntlet with the unpredictable reattachment of the valve core into the pressure loaded wheel and tyre assembly. Valves can easily spring back out at incredible force during this process and without attention could easily cause serious injury. Today even light commercial tyres are now commonly found with pressures around 70psi, so, says the company, it is imperative that enhanced safety measures are implemented especially for conventional truck/bus tyres.
The Core Retracting Tool has been engineered for use in conjunction with an inflation device like the PCL Mk3/4 Airline Gauge or Eurodainu. The device works through manual attachment to the inflation hose via an inlet tailpiece on the CRT device. The removal of the valve cap, prepares the valve for the straight forward attachment of the CRT, and through manual engagement of the valve core, the device neatly unscrews and dispenses the core into its clear casing allowing the unobstructed passage of air through the device and into the tyre. Upon reaching the correct tyre pressure, a simple turn of the knob located on the CRT tool safely reinstates the core.
