MOU Signing Brings Michelin’s Indian TBR Plant a Step Closer
On November 16 a memorandum of understanding for a new manufacturing facility was signed between Michelin and the Tamil Nadu state government in India. The factory, to be established by Michelin India Tamil Nadu Tyres Ltd, will be built on a 290 acre site some 50 kilometres north of Chennai. The facility is to be erected in phases over a number of years, and the first truck and bus radials are expected to be produced there in 2012.
“Michelin is extremely grateful to the state of Tamil Nadu for making it possible to have access to land and infrastructure to be able to build our factory,” announced Michelin Africa-India-Middle East president Prashant Prabhu after exchanging documents with state officials.
The Rs 40 billion (£512 million) plant will employ around 1,500 people and mainly serve the domestic market.
