Conti Invests to Expand Production Processes in Romania
Continental has announced plans to expand the production process at its Timişoara passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyre facility in Romania. The expansion will centre upon the construction of a new unit for processing the master batch and, adds Conti, will enable the company to have a completely integrated production unit that permits the local processing of raw materials, a feature that will consolidate the company’s tyre business in Romania and increase the plant’s cost competitiveness. The project will involve a “two digit million” amount, Continental adds, and will in the mid-term lead to the creation of around 200 new jobs.
“We continue implementing our long term development strategy for the Continental plant in Timişoara, relying on consolidating our position as a major tyre producer in Central and Eastern Europe”, said plant director Thierry Wipff. “This investment proves our commitment to the local business and to the community of Timişoara. By the completion of the master batch processing unit, the plant will benefit from state of the art technology that is in full compliance with the European Union quality, safety and environment requirements.”
The Timişoara plant currently produces 40,000 passenger car tyres per day. According to Continental, the expansion programme will improve the facility’s technological flow and will ensure its complete autonomy. The technological process, Conti adds, fully complies with current European Union regulations regarding environmental protection. All emissions will be collected, a filtration system will be installed, and the carbon black and oils will use a pressure-tight isolated circuit. The standards of the fire protection system will be among the most complex in this field. A permanent environment monitoring system will be installed, according to a pre-established plan.
