Nokian Loader Grip 2 Available in November

Nokian’s new Loader Grip 2 tyre for wheel loaders is almost here – the Finnish manufacturer reports that the initial size in the range, a 15.5R25 for lighter vehicles, will be available for sale in 2009 and new fitments will expand the line-up during 2010. This first available size, says Nokian, is designed for loaders with a working weight of approximately ten tons and the tyre’s wide contact area and frame structure is said to facilitate the easy carrying of heavy loads and a stable and precise steering response.

The tyre, continues Nokian, is tailored for wheel loaders and the tread, featuring angular blocks in the middle and square at the shoulder, helps loaders maintain grip when loading on soft gravel or when driving on icy, slippery roads. The Loader Grip 2 is also said to provide good traction and lateral grip. Intended uses include diverse municipal contracting and year-round road maintenance.

According to Nokian, the combination of winter grip with excellent wear resistance was a challenging task for its heavy tyres development team. After comprehensive testing, a rubber compound based on natural rubber was selected. The durability of the Loader Grip 2 is further enhanced with abrasion protection that prevents cuts and abrasions to the sidewall. The pattern block DSI indicators enable users to keep track of wear; the numbers on the block fade when there is around 25 per cent tread remaining.
