Mytyres Adds Number-plate Fitment System
Delticom AG-owned Mytyres.co.uk has added a number-plate fitment option allowing drivers to find suitable tyres using just a car’s registration. Mytyres is obviously aiming to demystify the tyre buying process by offering an easier way of finding out which consumers need. Adopting this style means Mytyres joins the list of companies already using similar systems (including National Tyres’ online presence amongst others). The move also marks the beginning of trend in the market towards offering this. Tyres & Acccessories/tyrepress.com understands that some of the business’ leading online and bricks and mortar names are in advanced discussions with number-plate fitment system service providers regarding adding this facility.
However, adding a number-plate system does not mean trade will double over night without any problem. Reporting Mytyres.co.uk’s news, consumer magazine Which? warned that number-plate fitment systems are not fool proof: “To be on the safe side, we would still recommend you check that the tyre sizes correspond with what’s written on your current wheels – which does mean a trip outside with a pen and paper….Also, remember that if your car is fitted with aftermarket, or even manufacturer optional, alloy wheels, then the standard tyre sizes held by the Mytyres database may not be accurate.”
“One final word of warning. We tried the number plate search, and it appears to work very well. But the company does seem to deal in some exceptionally obscure makes of tyre, and, as the results are graded by price, you may have to scroll quite a way before you get to a brand name you recognise,” the recent Which? report concluded.
