Bridgestone ‘RRR’ Tyres OE on Airbus A350 XWB
Bridgestone has been selected to supply tyres for the Airbus A350 XWB (eXtra Wide Body). The tyres fitted to the aircraft, comments the Japanese tyre major, will include its “RRR” (Revolutionary Reinforced Radial) construction, which Bridgestone says will contribute to reduced fuel consumption, enhanced cost management, and improved safety.
The particular benefits brought through RRR construction, elaborates Bridgestone, is that the high elastic modulus/strength cords used in the radial construction improves the tyres’ lightness, resulting in greater fuel efficiency. Environmental sensitivity has been a key theme in the development of the A350 XWB, and Bridgestone comments that its tyres will contribute to that goal through reduced fuel consumption. The radial construction will also result in higher abrasion resistance, allowing for more aircraft landings before tyre replacement, thus contributing to better cost control while maintaining quality. Furthermore, the durability offered by RRR construction is said to offer enhanced safety in comparison with tyres not incorporating this design feature.
Bridgestone began to supply RRR tyres for the Airbus A380 in October 2007. With the selection of Bridgestone as tyre supplier for the A350 XWB, the company will work towards further increasing its RRR tyre market share.
