Bridgestone Helping Meals on Wheels Battle Hunger in US
Every day in the United States of America, one in nine senior citizens – an astonishing five million people – face the threat of hunger. And it is projected that 75 per cent more seniors will be facing the threat of hunger by 2025. In an effort to combat this disgraceful and growing problem, Bridgestone Retail Operations, LLC (BSRO) and the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) – the oldest and largest organisation in the United States representing those providing meal services to people in need – have announced a national partnership.
The partnership will focus on increasing awareness, funding and volunteers for Meals On Wheels programmes throughout the US. Activities will include fundraisers and volunteer recruitment. In addition, Members of MOWAA and volunteers will have the opportunity to receive ‘very special’ offers on tyres and services at the BSRO retail network, the largest company-owned network of company-owned automotive service providers in the world.
“Bridgestone Retail Operations truly is a company with a conscience and we are very pleased that they have partnered with our organisation to help provide the next meal to seniors across the country,” said Enid Borden, president and CEO of MOWAA. “Together, we can and we will drive away senior hunger.”
“We are proud to be a national partner of this important organisation that works to end senior hunger,” said BRSO chairman, CEO & president Larry Magee. “BSRO’s support of MOWAA is a logical fit. Through our more than 2,000 retail locations nationwide, we will be able to help the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who drive each day “so no senior goes hungry.”
MOWAA represents local senior nutrition programs in urban, suburban and rural communities in every state in America. Through some 5,000 independently run and operated meal delivery and congregate meal programmes, MOWAA volunteers deliver more than one million meals per day to hundreds of thousands of seniors across the country.
