Bridgestone Australia Welcomes Government Assistance Package
Bridgestone Australia says it welcomes an October 27 announcement by South Australian Premier Mike Rann offering State and Federal Government assistance for employees affected by the closure of the company’s Salisbury factory. The state Premier outlined the package during discussions with senior Bridgestone executives, and according to Bridgestone Australia senior executive director Andrew Moffatt the assistance offered will “complement” the company’s stated commitment to its employees.
“As we said at the time of our announcement, all affected employees will receive their full entitlements and it is our goal to help as many of our people as possible gain alternative employment,” said Moffatt. “Given the skill-set of our workforce, we are confident that the assistance package, together with the Company’s initiatives, will assist affected employees make a successful transition to new employment.
“We look forward to working as part of the joint Company-Union-Commonwealth-State Task Force on the delivery and coordination of services and support to Bridgestone Salisbury employees,” the senior executive director added.
