Scorpion Releases Megane 225 System
Thanks to Renaultsport’s involvement, the Renault Megane range contains a number of desirable models. Although they’re all snappy performers ‘out of the box’, Scorpion Exhausts has given owners of the oft-admired 225 models, sold from 2004 onwards, a little more at their disposal when they bring out the ‘heavy foot’.
The Scorpion system fits from the catalyst back, retaining both full legality and warranty conformity. Hand-fabricated in aerospace grade T304 stainless steel, the 2.5-inch diameter tubing is mandrel bent to ensure a constant internal diameter and is optimised to balance the perfect back-pressure for the turbocharger with optimum extraction for maximum power gains.
Owners can specify either a front sports silencer or bypass pipe as the front section to dial in – or out – their desired level of noise. Perfect for ever-decreasing track day dB levels or for those looking to live with both a quick car and friendly neighbours. The system terminates in two ‘Monaco’ 90 x 76mm oval tailpipes, giving what Scorpion calls “an OEM look with a little extra attitude.” While the note is overtly sporty, Scorpion’s engineers have spent many hours of road and dyno testing to ensure that it’s not intrusive in the cabin. Power and torque gains of between 5 and 10 per cent can be expected with huge improvements in mid-range throttle response.
Like all Scorpion systems, this new Megane 225 design benefits from a lifetime warranty to the original owner, making it a true ‘fit and forget’ upgrade. Prices start at £249 for the rear sports back box rising to £450 for the full cat-back system with two silencers.
