Acquisition Boosts Reclaim’s Presence in Australian Tyre Recycling
Following a recent acquisition, Reclaim Industries Ltd has become Australia’s largest tyre recycler. The publicly traded tyre recycler and rubber manufacturing company purchased the Sydney based Renaza tyre processing plant for AU$621,000 from the bankrupted ReVived Rubber Technologies and Renaza Resources – an acquisition that comes at a time when Reclaim is seeing business increase 27 per cent over the 2009 financial year.
“Reclaim is the only company in Australia focused on receiving whole waste tyres, processing the tyres, and manufacturing products from the waste tyres,” commented managing director John Crosby. The company was formed through the acquisition of three leading Australian recyclers, Entyre Rubber Systems, PlaySafe Australia and LeisureSafe Holdings, in the 1990s. According to Crosby the latest acquisition is part of Reclaim’s “ongoing business strategy to be the leading tyre recycling and manufacturing producer in all states and territories.”
Only around ten per cent of the 20 million or so waste tyres generated in Australia each year are recycled within the country. The remainder are sold overseas, primarily to China for use in power generation, or treated and put into landfill.
