11-Year Olds Blamed For US Tyre Fire
Two 11-year old girls were arrested on suspicion of starting a fire which destroyed a warehouse storing shredded tyres ready to be recycled. The warehouse, owned by Joliet, Illinois-based tyre recycler Tire Grinder Transporters, was ablaze for five hours before firefighters brought it under control.
The warehouse – and TGT’s entire stock of rubber crumb – were destroyed, but the fire was contained before it could spread to a building where the tyres are processed. Nobody was hurt in the incident and Steve Huizinga, one of TGT’s owners, said that production would continue.
After being charged with arson, the two girls were released into the custody of their parents.
