Yokohama UK Distributor Reports WTCC “Great Success”
July's UK round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch was dubbed “a resounding success” by the UK distributor of Yokohama tyres, whose flagship ADVAN range is used as control tyre for the series. Yokohama HPT hosted dealers and clients to witness the spectacle of the world's best touring car racing.
2009 marked the fourth year that YHPT has attended the UK round of the WTCC. The hospitality unit was located, as it has been for the last two years, alongside the racetrack just before the start/finish line, giving exceptional views of the action throughout the weekend. Not only did guests get to watch the two WTCC races, they also saw a Formula Master race and a round of the Lotus On Track series, all of which run on Yokohama rubber.
Managing director of YHPT David Seward and sales manager Nick Greenfield were invited to present the trophies to the winning drivers at each race. Commenting on the weekend, David Seward said: “Once again, this weekend’s UK round of the WTCC was an outstanding success. The racing was excellent, the standard of the hospitality provided to our guests was superb and it proved the perfect environment to spend time with our dealer and members of the press.
“As it has been for the last three years, it was extremely gratifying to see our products contributing to such excellent racing action, not only for the WTCC but also, Formula Master and the Lotus On Track series. We look forward to supporting these series and enjoying more visits by the WTCC to the UK using Yokohama ADVAN tyres.”
The unit had a pair of WTCC simulators so guests could see for themselves the closeness of the action. Outside, there was a Palmer Sport RaceMaster BMW M3, which forms part of MotorsportVision’s race experience days. YHPT’s five grid girls also helped the guests to take part in three grid walks, for both the WTCC races and immediately before the start of the Formula Master race. Two WTCC drivers, Jaap van Lagen and Brit James Thompson later visited the unit to speak to the guests and sign autographs.
