Yokohama Rubber reports that the Yokohama Tire Corporation factory in Salem, Virginia (USA) has been formally recognised by the non-profit organisation “Clean Valley Council” for the tree planting carried out there as part of the “Yokohama Forever Forest” Project.
The tyre manufacturer has received the “Valley Beautiful Beautification Award,” given to companies that have engaged in systematic environmental preservation activities. Yokohama notes that its tree planting has been highly evaluated and deemed to be an exemplary environmental activity within the region. The award was presented at a ceremony at the Clean Valley Council’s premises on July 9.
The tree planting programme in question took place on April 4, with some 250 people lending a hand, including representatives of forestry offices in the city of Salem and the state of Virginia, students from local elementary schools, local Boy Scouts, plus YTC employees and their families. Altogether, approximately 2,300 trees in eight varieties, including oak, maple and black gum, were planted.
The Clean Valley Council delivers an environmental message to local students, and carries out various activities championing the importance of environmental activities. Twice a year, it stages large-scale clean-ups, in which YTC employees participate as volunteers.
