Bridgestone Extends Golf Sponsorship
An extension of Bridgestone’s title sponsorship for the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational through to 2014 has been agreed upon. An agreement with the International Federation of PGA Tours was reached and announced on August 9. Bridgestone comments that details of the agreement are currently being finalised; these will be agreed upon in the "coming weeks".
The tyre major first began sponsoring the Bridgestone Invitational in 2006, and the current title sponsorship agreement runs through 2010. On August 9, Tiger Woods – who had previously won the event six times – notched up his 70th PGA Tour Victory during the 2009 Bridgestone Invitational. The event was held at the Firestone Country Club’s South Course in Akron, Ohio, and during the course of proceedings it was also announced that the country club will continue to serve as host organisation through to 2014.
“The tough economy has certainly proved challenging for everyone, so it’s good to be able to share some positive news,” said Bridgestone Board of Directors member Mark Emkes. “This agreement in principal will keep the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club through 2014. This world-class event provides a tremendous boost to the economy in Northeast Ohio, generates significant contributions to local charities such as The First Tee and gives us incredible global exposure for the Bridgestone and Firestone brands.”
The Bridgestone Invitational is one of four World Golf Championships sanctioned and organised by the International Federation of PGA Tours.
