Apollo Tyres to Supply 50% Nissan Truck South Africa OE Needs
Apollo Tyres South Africa recently won the contract to supply half of Nissan Diesel’s truck tyre requirements. Nissan Diesel SA (Pty) Ltd, based in Rosslyn Pretoria, have reportedly chosen Apollo Tyres South Africa (formerly known as Dunlop International) to supply the Dunlop brand steel radial truck tyres, in an “open-ended contract.”
The deal with Nissan Diesel is the single largest original equipment deal secured with a vehicle manufacturer since the reinstatement of Apollo Tyres South Africa’s Original Equipment department early last year. Dr Luis Ceneviz, Apollo Tyres South Africa’s CEO said: “We are proud to be collaborating with Nissan Diesel as both companies share a common goal of exceeding customer expectation and growing its share of business. We look forward to many more such partnerships into the future.”
Apollo will be supplying Nissan Diesel trucks with a combination of Dunlop Transteel 354 or 366 for the steer axle and Transteel 431 or 465+ for the drive axle. The latter of each combination would be the premium range of tyres fitted to the high output truck tractors in the Nissan Diesel range. According to the tyre manufacturer, the Dunlop Transteel range of truck tyres “took the replacement market by storm in 2002 when the company produced the first local premium super single steel radial truck tyre.”
Fritz Thiart, general manager manufacturing at Nissan Diesel commented: “In these tough economic times, it is essential for all original equipment manufacturers to be able to partner with suppliers that understand their business and assist in remaining competitive. Apollo offers our end users a proven product as well as outstanding sales support.”
Craig Davie, Apollo Tyres South Africa’s original equipment manager added: “It is becoming more important for tyre manufacturers to be developing tyres in conjunction with vehicle manufacturers given the advancements in the level of sophistication in each of the product lines. We need to make sure that we pair the tyre and vehicle in order to optimise the tyre and vehicle performance and value for money that is expected in a fiercely contested market. Our products have proven themselves on numerous large fleets where initial mileage, coupled with proven retreadability has provided fleets with a competitive cost per kilometre and trouble free transporting.”
Apollo Tyres South Africa is confident that the alignment with Nissan Diesel will prove to be successful and will provide premium tyres and service to cement the relationship into the future.
