Reynolds Logistics Becomes Latest Michelin PPK Partner
Michelin has added another pence per kilometre (PPK) partner to its UK portfolio through signing a three-year contract with petrochemical transport specialist Reynolds Logistics. As part of the deal the Reynolds fleet of 44 tonne Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units and 18 to 26 tonne Axor rigids will be fitted with a range of XZE2+ / XDE2+ tyres, as wear dictates, whilst its Magyar tankers will receive XTE2 and XTE3 trailer tyres.
“With a fleet covering more than three million kilometres a year delivering bulk lubricants, safety is of paramount importance,” commented Ian Williams, fleet operations manager at Reynolds Logistics. “Our customers have exceptionally high health and safety standards which are at the core of our organisation, requiring us to have auditable fleet records – including tyre maintenance. The Michelin PPK agreement not only allows us to own the tyres, without the up-front cost of outright purchase, but we also have the benefit of routine fleet inspections carried out by professional tyre technicians.”
Servicing of the Michelin PPK contract will be carried out by ATS Euromaster, with fleet checks performed using ATS Euromaster’s electronic data capture (EDC2) system, which allows technicians to record each tyre’s condition and tread depth onto a small handheld computer before uploading the report in ‘real time’ to a central database. These results will then automatically be passed to Reynolds Logistics’ local ATS Euromaster service centre, which co-ordinates any tyre necessary replacements or service work.
“We are constantly looking to implement new and innovative ideas that will not only lead to a safer operation but also have less impact on the environment,” Williams added. “The Michelin tyres we are fitting offer a lower rolling resistance than our previous policy fitment, which will not only have a direct impact on our fuel consumption, but will also help us to further reduce our carbon footprint.”
The agreement with Michelin provides Reynolds Logistics with a handy emergency backup in the form of ATS Euromaster’s fleet of 250 frontline rapid response vehicles, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide roadside assistance in the event of a tyre-related breakdown.
