Peter Taylor Receives OBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours List
Peter Taylor the Tyre Recycling Association’s secretary general and long time director of the Imported Tyre Manufacturers Association (ITMA) has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in a move which is seen as honouring the UK tyre industry’s pioneering work in developing a ground breaking tyre recovery and recycling programme.
“I am absolutely delighted to receive this important honour,” said Peter Taylor: “However without the help and support of other members of the tyre industry and its various trade associations we would not have been able to establish the Responsible Recycler Scheme and make it work as effectively as it does. I am happy to accept this honour on behalf of the UK tyre industry.”
Working closely with the tyre industry, government and through the TRA, Peter Taylor, who has devoted over 40 years service to the tyre industry, is credited with helping to develop – as a founding member of the Used Tyre Working Group – a voluntary scheme to track, trace and recycle tyres. It has been acknowledged that the resulting Reponsible Recycler Scheme as being class leading and the largest market based tyre recovery programme established, not just in the UK, but throughout the rest of Europe and the world. All of this was achieved without the need for complex legislation to ensure compliance.
Taylor has also devoted a considerable amount of time in the area of tyre safety. As secretary of the Tyre Industry Council, now TyreSafe, from the late 1990s he helped establish and promote tyre safety campaigns with the police and many other non governmental organisations contributing to a reduction in accidents on UK roads. During his tenure at the TIC Peter assisted with gaining a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award and was given A Lifetime Achievement Award for his work.
