JK Tyre Sponsor Indian National Karting Championship

JK Tyre are to sponsor the fifth JK Tyre Indian National Rotax Max Karting Championship, which begins with its first round of the season at Coimbatore. The championship will take off at the Kari Motor Speedway with the qualifying & heat races to be held on Saturday June 6 and the main races on Sunday June 7, 2009. The winners of the 3 classes will have the honour of being declared the National Rotax Karting Champions of India.

The concept of the championship has been formatted to develop the burgeoning field of Indian motor sports. For the first time several teams will be in the fray for the prestigious event, with Amaron-Meco Pro Kart, Red Rooster, Mohites, Indus, AW, Rayo and Meco-City Kart all taking part. Also, for the first time the entries will have an international flavour, with a Scottish driver and an Iraqi girl participating.

The event has generated a record number of entries and will feature races in three classes – Micro Max (8 to 12 years), Junior (13 to 16 years) and Senior (16 & above). The total number of entries is 52 of which 18 are in seniors, 20 in juniors and 14 in Micro Max category. Also, there will be a support race of four stroke engines for juniors (7 enteries) and senior category (8 enteries). The objective of this concept is to give more independence and flexibility to the drivers as now they will have the choice to run their own kart by bringing the chassis.
