Soopa Toobs Emphasise Diversity of ATV Applications
All Terrain Vehicles are so named due to the broad and diverse range of off-road and increasingly on-road applications for which they are used. These machines are becoming ever more sophisticated with electric start, selectable four wheel drive, lights, power take off drive shafts, more powerful engines and differentials to improve traction and ride in the turns. Aside from their use in recreational pursuits a variety of accessories, attachments and implements are available enabling the machine to perform many duties such as weed control, pest control and hunting, livestock feeding, snow clearance, haulage duties around the farm, estate, park, garden or wherever they are used.
Of course, alongside the wide offering of parts and peripherals, the different roles the machines undertake and the varied terrains on which they are used have led to the development of a wide range of tyres. Tyres for sports machines tend to have a flat profile while utility machine tyres usually have a round topped profile. The sports tyres lend themselves to powersliding and provide good stability on medium to hard surface trail riding while the round-top tyre will perform better in soft terrain, biting deeper while also providing a softer ride. Many of the new generation of tyres designed by Carlisle are now of radial construction to offer increased traction, better puncture resistance and improved ride comfort.
Tyres such as the Carlisle Field Trax or the All-Trail are ideally suited to utility use, general estate work across different hard and soft terrains. The Carlisle AT489, previously manufactured under the Titan brand, has become one of the more established offerings and continues to present users with the required combination of grip, ride and control. Staying with the Carlisle range, the Turf Tamer type is suited to field work as well as some sport applications. The Carlisle Mud Wolf is a strong 6pr radial tyre with an open tread design and a 1” tread depth for deep traction and self-cleaning abilities for the most demanding terrain. The Carlisle Black Rock, Trail Wolf Sport will soon be introduced to the UK market.
Soopa Toobs says that it understands not all riders need a premium tyre and as such can offer the Kings tyre brand to fill the needs of the smaller budget. The ‘E’ marked range also solves the road-legal issue, with the road-legal variants available in ‘street’ and ‘off-road’ styles. The ‘off-road’ styles, such as the Kings KT-103 and KT-168 and the ‘street’ tyre, such as the Kings KT-113 and KT-115 all carry the ‘E’ mark and are speed rated to 120kph (74mph).
Soopa Toobs carries a full range of Carlisle and Kings tyres in stock for all kinds of off-highway applications. It is based on Home Farm in Colliers End, Hertfordshire.
