ContiRV20 Combines Strength, Speed and Comfort
The development thinking behind Continental’s industrial tyres is that they should meet a wide range of demands, with design characteristics balanced to suit each individual application. In order to handle the performance challenges at airports, the ContiRV20 has been designed to offer strength, speed and comfort at an industrial level. Conti notes that for customers the benefits of this are increased working efficiency, reduced driver fatigue, lower operating costs and less maintenance. Service life as provided by the ContiRV20 is described as being “outstanding”. Specifically, the manufacturer comments that the new tyre offers high mileage performance, durability, and damage resistance under the most demanding conditions.
The ContiRV20 is intended to last up to five times longer and the extra thick sidewall designed for greater resistance to damage than other tyres used in this application, such as car or van tyres. The ContiRV20 is designed for higher speeds of up to 25 mph with minimal heat build-up and minimal energy consumption, an ability Conti attributes to the tyre’s perfectly balanced tread depth. The tread compound and design of the ContiRV20 reduces rolling resistance by up to 30 per cent compared with a comparable crossply tyre, Conti adds. This fuel saving reduction in energy consumption is said to take place without compromising the tyre’s grip on all surfaces encountered in an airport environment. A pneumatic design allows for a more comfortable ride plus a greater protection of goods being transported, and Continental adds that the radial casing particular adds to comfort when traversing uneven ground. The ribbed tread pattern is intended to virtually eliminate the vibration commonly encountered with industrial tyre lugged tread designs in these fast-moving applications.
According to Continental, the ContiRV20 is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and can be used on all wheel positions in almost any climate. In particular, it is suitable for sweepers, platform trucks, tow tractors and forklifts in airport applications. The tyre can also be used in large production facilities, logistics centres and warehouses, where its design makes it ideal for transporting fragile goods, especially over long distances. The ContiRV20 comes in seven sizes – 6.00 R 9, 6.50 R 10, 7.00 R 12, 165 R 13, 180/70 R 8, 7.00 R15 and 7.50 R 15. Construction Tyres Continental’s range of new generation construction tyres for both on and off-road applications was completed with last year’s introduction of the 295/80R22.5 steer and drive tyres.
The new generation technology is now available for steer, drive and trailer axles in all key sizes. The tread design on the HSC1 pattern for steer axles has been designed to minimise stone trapping, a feature that Continental believes makes it ideal for on and off road applications. The manufacturer notes that, with a reinforced belt construction and tough new deep tread pattern, it gives excellent protection from damage, high mileage performance on-road and precise steering and traction on all other surfaces. The HDC1 pattern for drive axles features a greater tread depth and more volume than its predecessor. Its tough compound and strong durable casing is said to deliver high mileage and significant grip whatever the weather conditions. The HTC1 for trailer axles is intended to provide high mileage and good grip in all construction application conditions thanks to its precise balance geometry and new off and on-road tread pattern.
