Double Win for Dunlop Direzza
The winner of the Street Touring Ultra class at this year’s Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition, held in California, may have appeared familiar. The man taking the honours at the event was none other than last year’s winner, Richard Jung. At both the 2008 and 2009 competitions Jung attained victory on Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tyres.
“There has been a lot of hype about new street tyres from some of Dunlop’s competitors for this type of competition, so it was satisfying to get a repeat victory as evidence that the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec is still the tyre to beat,” said Jung. “Enthusiasts are getting the message that this Dunlop tyre is proven to be the fastest in competition. You can feel the difference when you push the Star Specs, which is an advantage, because it allows a more consistent feel and reduced the need for suspension adjustments between runs.”
According to Matthew Neidert, Dunlop Tires brand manager, “the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec is an ultra-high performance summer tyre for serious driving enthusiasts who measure the highway in laps.” The tyre features the ‘Star Spec’ tread compound, which Dunlop says helps a performance car’s initial dry grip during driving events, such as autocross and high-performance track events hosted by regional car clubs. Neidert said Jung’s repeat win at the SCCA event “again proves the Star Specs are among the best ultra-high performance tyres an enthusiast can buy. His times and consistency allowed him to take the win over other cars, and people are definitely taking notice.”
The Dunlop Sport Direzza Z1 was awarded European Car magazine’s “Select Gear 2008” distinction in its December 2008 issue. The North America market range is available in 20 sizes, with rim diameters from 15 to 18 inches.
