ContiTech Power Transmission Belts: Brand Products Give Certainty
Car maintenance has once again become a priority in the minds of vehicle owners because cars are being kept longer as a result of current economic conditions. And consumers are also paying more attention to prices at auto repair shops. Anyone trying to save on quality when buying power transmission belts, however, must expect to incur high follow-up costs in the event of belt failure – a warning the sales staff at repair shops should give to their customers.
The qualities of a drive belt are not immediately evident just by looking at the product. “Only by the brand name will the fitter know for sure that he is using a quality product”, stresses Markus Pirsch, head of Marketing Service for the automotive aftermarket at the ContiTech Power Transmission Group. Drive belts made by ContiTech for the automotive aftermarket comply with OE standards, giving shop fitters the certainty and confidence that their customers will also benefit from the features of these products.
ContiTech’s manufacturing operations for power transmission belts are certified worldwide to ISO/TS 16949 quality management standards. While ContiTech tests its products on special test rigs prior to product distribution, the repair shop tests no-name belts directly on the customer’s vehicle. “If a no-name belt fails prematurely due to technical deficiencies, the repair shop has to deal with the complaint. If belt failure also leads to engine damage, the costs can be extremely high and the repair shop is likely to lose that customer for ever”, warns Pirsch. The use of brand products is thus a guarantee for customer satisfaction – a vital factor in a highly competitive market, because only satisfied customers will remain loyal to “their” workshop in the end.
A complete range of products for passenger cars and commercial vehicles provides for added confidence in the brand: “Our range covers more than 98 percent of the market which means that repair shops will find the right drive belt and the right kit with tensioner pulleys for almost every vehicle there is”, explains Pirsch.
