Carlsson Appoints Rolf Schepp New Head Designer
Carlsson, the company behind many wheel and accessories modifications for Mercedes Benz has formalised its already intensive co-operation with Rolf Schepp. On 1 March, the automobile manufacturer appointed the designer as their head designer.
Rolf Schepp has been working for Carlsson on a regular basis for many years. Amongst others, he developed the style for the current CLK- (W209), S- (W220), the future E-class (W212) and the Smart Fortwo. His work can be seen especially in the front spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser, which bear his signature. A Carlsson press release states that “he has significantly advanced the Carlsson design line. Moreover, Schepp shaped the latest Evo- and Revo-wheel generations.”
Schepp states, “The Carlsson design philosophy is made of a symbiosis of traditional values, high quality standards and an enormous stable value on the one side and the ongoing pursuit of innovation and perfection on the other side. My task as a designer is, to constantly visualise this standard with varied and ingenious, but also brand-orientated shapes on Carlsson automobiles. This is the only way how the unique character of the Carlsson design line can be successfully maintained in future.”
Schepp is also known by his pseudonym DeLusi. He has often published his predicted future car models many years in advance and these in well-known journals like Auto Zeitung in Germany, Autocar in Great Britain and Automobile in the United States. Car journals and economic magazines regularly ask for his opinion when new cars are introduced to the market. Schepp is an honorary professor occasionally teaching students of design, architecture and municipal planning in Beijing.
