Would-Be Recycler Fined for Breaking Storage Law
Borough Recycling Services, a company hoping to construct a new tyre shredding plant near Folkingham, Lincolnshire, has been fined £10,000 after it was found to be storing a quantity of baled tyres 100 times greater than is allowed by law at its existing Kirton Holme-based operation near Boston. The company admitted that it had failed to obtain the correct permits for storing the tyres, alongside other related charges brought after the Environmental Agency visited the site.
The company defended its actions during the hearing at Boston Magistrates Court, saying it had misunderstood the legal implications of storing the tyres. The company will work with the Environmental Agency to find a way to dispose of the tyres properly, while residents in the villages surrounding the proposed site of the shredding plant have objected to the company’s plans to build on what was Folkingham Airfield.
The Grantham Journal, which has followed the company’s proposals, reports that the villagers have cited the narrow access roads the company proposes to use, as the primary objection to the potential plant. A decision is due to be made on 16 March following a hearing.
