“Like a 756 on Steroids”
Dunlop has launched its successor to the popular D756 motocross tyre, the Geomax MX51 in addition to its new MX31, which will replace the D773 on soft-terrain. The new Geomax features a more open centre tread and greater tread volume in the shoulders, alongside greater rigidity in the sidewall, making the tyre more compatible with lower air pressure.
The manufacturer says that the tyre should also boast increased strength, with a larger radius for the tread blocks, which have tie-bars running between them to resist chunking. Cutaways on the blocks should enable greater levels of grip, while the shallower recesses between blocks should increase bump absorption. The Supercross rider Trey Canard was evidently impressed, saying that the tyres were “like a 756 on steroids.”
The MX31 has a wider tread profile; a reflection of its key application on mud and sand. Dunlop believes that the tyre’s shoulder blocks should cut into softer terrain easily, thus helping riders in ruts.
