MCN Gives Maxxis Supermaxx Sport Rave Reviews
MCN, the UK’s number one consumer motorcycle magazine, has published a string of complimentary comments about Maxxis’s Supermaxx sports radial, which it is currently putting through its paces on a 172mph Yamaha R6. Journalist Chris Newbigging has been testing the Maxxis Supermaxx Sport – improved for 2009 with a multi-section construction – since October and his verdict is that the tyres are ‘stable and grippy on wintry B-roads’.
According to the magazine, while the track-biased Dunlop Qualifier RRs that were previously fitted on the bike ‘couldn’t cope’ with gritted roads, the Supermaxx Sports came into their own: “…their lower operating temperature means they hook up and take the worry out of wet riding – bloody impressive,” Newbigging enthused.
This positive feedback follows glowing reviews in Fast Bikes magazine, which has tested the Supermaxx Sport on Triumph Street Triple and Suzuki Bandit SF 1250 machines and, most recently, a Ducati Hypermotard.
In the March issue (219), road tester Alastair Fagan reports his decision to switch to Maxxis after the Ducati had clocked up 2,000 miles on OE rubber. He writes: “Last year saw the debut of the new Maxxis Supermaxx Sport, which shocked us with performance and value. At £170 a pair they’re more of a bargain than an engagement ring from Argos’ Elizabeth Duke range. For 2009 Maxxis have tweaked the Supermaxx Sport and it’s so far so good. We know they warm up quickly even in Baltic temperatures and with the refined tread pattern they seem to cut through water better too.”
Writing in the December issue (216) about the Supermaxx Sport’s test period on the Triumph, production editor Steve Takle says that having used the Maxxis tyres in all conditions, he has absolutely no complaints about a brand that often gets overlooked for bigger names.
Deputy editor Jamie Wilkins acclaimed that, thanks to Maxxis, the steering on the Triumph was significantly better than when shod with the OE Dunlop D218 Qualifiers and that the Supermaxx Sports “warm up in half the time and feel twice as confident. Outright dry grip is far superior and wet grip is on an all-new scale.”
